EY OPENS MENA DIGITAL SECURITY CENTRE IN OMAN

With a view to provide protection to business establishments in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region against growing cyber attacks, the global professional services provider EY on Thursday announced the opening of MENA Digital Security Operations Center (DSOC) in Muscat.
The centre was inaugurated by H E Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications in the presence of senior officials from various ministries.
According to EY officials, the DSOC will comprehensively monitor the security of IT systems, operations technology systems and IoT (Internet of Things) of organisations on a 24x7 basis in the GCC countries and other countries in MENA region.
“The aim is to make the sultanate a hub for cyber security operations in the region,” said Ahmed al Esry, EY Oman managing partner.
“The security centre in Muscat is the first of its kind in the region, serving clients across the Middle East and North Africa. Oman plays a key strategic role in the Middle East as the GCC Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), which also encompasses wider CERT responsibilities for Middle East and Africa,” he said.
EY’s MENA Digital Security Operations Center leverages its exclusive strategic alliance with Los Alamos National Laboratory, a leader in solving security challenges using technology and cyber analytics, to deliver some of the most advanced behavioural cybersecurity tools available such as the award-winning anomaly detection technology, PathScan.
Speaking about the centre, Mohammed Nayaz, EY partner, said one of the unique features of this centre is that the clients will not have to worry about the privacy of their data.
Under the new technology, analysts in the centre could predict any potential attack by observing anomalies in data flow thus reducing the risk of data breach significantly.
When asked why EY has chosen Oman to set up a regional DSOC, Clinton Firth, MENA cybersecurity leader at EY said,”The key thing is the strategic location of Oman and its proximity to the GCC, Arab nations and Africa along with the trust enjoyed by the sultanate.”
On prospect clients, Esry said the centre is designed to provide security to every business in the country but initially government departments and large organisations from banking and energy sectors could be potential clients.
