Margot Robbie Reveals When She’ll Next Suit Up As Harley Quinn
Audiences were wildly divided about Suicide Squad as a whole, but even most of those who didn’t care for the film had to give it up to Robbie for her entertaining portrayal of Harley Quinn, the former Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who broke very very bad after coming under the spell of Jared Leto’s Joker. Robbie’s dynamic, humorous and oddly touching performance as Quinn struck a nerve with audiences even if much of the rest of Suicide Squad was a confused muddle.

Robbie is currently at the Toronto International Film Festival winning rave reviews for her performance in the Tonya Harding movie I, Tonya, but she took time out from being lauded to discuss when she’ll be back playing her most iconic character to date. In an interview with The Wrap Robbie said, “I think next year I’ll be back in the fishnets wielding a baseball bat. I hope.” However, when asked to specify which of the three planned Quinn movies will be up next, Robbie could only answer, “Your guess is as good as mine at this point. I don’t know.”When asked about all the wild Joker movie reports, Leto admitted that he himself is confused about what DC is trying to do. A small amount of clarity was added to the situation when last week it was reported that Gavin O’Connor has been hired to write and direct Suicide Squad 2, replacing the original film’s writer-director David Ayer. With Suicide Squad 2 seeming to be moving along faster than any of the other Joker/Harley Quinn projects, it’s a safe bet that when Robbie returns to the role next year, it will be to begin work on that film and not one of the others. Reports have Suicide Squad 2 going before cameras possibly in the fall of 2018.
Meanwhile, Robbie continues to make waves in movies that don’t require her to wear hot pants and pig tails and beat on people with a baseball bat as a member of Suicide Squad. Later this year Robbie will appear alongside Domhnall Gleeson in the A.A. Milne biopic Goodbye Christopher Robin. Currently she is filming Mary Queen of Scots in which she plays Queen Elizabeth I. The actress also has the thriller Terminal in the pipeline, co-starring Simon Pegg, as well as the Maid Marian film Marian. Plus, Robbie is rumored to be on Quentin Tarantino’s radar to play Sharon Tate in his mysterious Charles Manson project.
